Course Overview

This unit will give you the skills and knowledge required to follow the key hygiene procedures that apply in many sectors of the hospitality and tourism industry. It is particularly relevant to kitchen, housekeeping, food and beverage, and some tour operators.

If your business prepares and sells food, this course can enhance your existing food handling procedures to ensure you maintain the highest standard of hygienic preparation for your customers.

The completion of this unit is a government requirement for people serving or handling food as part of their employment, fundraising or community requirements.

Online Requirements

Students who choose to study this course online will require a basic understanding of a Windows operating system and the internet.

From a technology perspective, students will require the use of the internet (preferably via broadband access) to access the TAFE Virtual Campus, Flash Player and a PDF Reader (such as Adobe Reader).

There are no prerequisites for this course, however, students are asked to wear sensible dress and shoes to class. Online: To successfully undertake the course online, students will require a basic understanding of computer operation.

How To Apply

Assessment

Theory (written) assessment.

Online course: The course is delivered online via the TAFE Virtual campus and consists of easy to read information interspersed with assessment tasks such as True/False questions and short answer quizzes. Following completion of the online assessment, students will be required to provide some form of practical evidence to validate the learning. The practical evidence may be supplied by demonstrating the necessary skills in the workplace, on video or at one of our GippsTAFE campuses.
