Course Overview

This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to work in a pharmacy. You will develop specialist product knowledge to support the customer and the pharmacist.

You will use your knowledge to support customers preventing and/or managing health conditions as well assisting in the dispensary, merchandising products and controlling stock. A pharmacy assistant at this level would provide a filter in the sale of pharmacy only medicine by identifying customer information and making referrals to the pharmacist.

This course includes practical placement so you can develop your skills in a real life environment to complement the high quality training you will receive at GippsTAFE.

Assessment

Assessment is competency based and includes written work and online research, and oral presentations.

Practical Placement
1 day per week for 5 weeks and 1 week block provides students with vital hands on experience.

RPL
Are you working currently in pharmacy but lack a formal qualification? The Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) program may enable you to gain recognition of your existing skills and experience, assisting you to achieve a qualification such as Certificate II or III in Community Pharmacy. Your skills can be assessed through a variety of methods such as workplace visits, interview, third party report and existing certificates.
