Course Overview

Like creating beautiful and inspiring places?

This industry recognised course provides a deeper understanding of the principles of design. You'll learn about the utilisation of space in both commercial and residential properties and study colour, lighting effects and computer aided design.

These skills will help you gain employment in senior assistant roles in either the decoration industry or with a design consultancy.

Plus, successful completion of this course enables you to apply for associate membership of the Design Institute of Australia and/or the Building Designers Association of Victoria.

You may enrol in individual units.

Qualifications And Recognition

Upon successful completion of this course students will be eligible to receive the Diploma of Interior Decoration and Design.

Employment Prospects

  • Self employment as an interior decorator, colour consultant or interior stylist
  • In-house Interior designer or decorator for design and decoration consultancies
  • Furniture, furnishings and fabric suppliers, furnishing departments or retail stores or shopfitters

Entry Requirements

To undertake this course you must:

  • Have completed year 11 English or equivalent is preferable or be a mature age student
  • Attend an interview and present a folio of recent art work that demonstrates evidence of basic competence in imaging techniques and the use of a variety of materials, with an emphasis on drawing skills.

Assessment

A range of methods will be used to assess your competence. Whenever possible, every attempt will be made to apply a practical assessment that models a workplace situation.

Assessment methods include:

  • live client briefings and presentations
  • reports
  • testing by short answer and multiple choice questions
  • folios
