Course Overview

This course is aimed at providing students with the skills and abilities required to meet the needs of the horticulture industry. Elective units make up the substantive course content and will develop the specific skills required to undertake many vital functions required by people employed in this industry.

This course develops and enhances the skills and knowledge to enable youto work independently or at a supervisory or managerial level, or to run your own business in the sector of the horticulture industry in which you have chose to specialise.

Qualifications And Recognition

Upon successful completion of this course participants will be eligible to be assessed for a National Certificate of Competency.

Employment Prospects

Horticulturist at a managerial level in the amenity horticulture industry, horticulture enterprise manager or business manager in the parks and gardens, landscaping, turf, nursery, arboriculture and floriculture industries, depending on units completed.

Entry Requirements

 Year 12 or equivalent or qualify for mature-age entry, holder of a relevant qualification at a lower level, in which an interview would take place to make sure that you are able to enter this course. 

Pre-Requisites

Best suit a person who has current experience and skills as a horticulture tradesman and can provide sufficient evidence to support this claim against the units of competency.

Assessment

Practical experiences, practical demonstrations, practical demonstrations in simulated work conditions, problem solving, documents/folio, critical incident reports, journals, oral presentations, presentations to audiences, interviews, videos, visuals/slides/audio tapes, case studies, projects, group projects, group discussions, examinations.
