Course Overview

Looking to undertake your apprenticeship with people who are passionate and knowledgeable about what they do? Then enrol at GippsTAFE.

You'll develop advanced skills in establishing and maintaining turf areas, including the use of specialised machinery and soil analysis. These skills will open up new career opportunities, helping you to move into more senior work roles. You might even find yourself one day responsible for the turf at the MCG or Flemington Racecourse!

Employment Prospects

  • Groundsman (for sporting arenas, councils, golf courses, bowling clubs, private homes)
  • Turf grower and production company supplying sporting clubs?
  • Land restoration business that specialises in ground cover plants both exotic and indigenous grasses.

Entry Requirements

  • Currently employed as an apprentice in the horticultural industry. Before commencement of training an agreement must be signed between the employer, apprentice and GippsTAFE.

Assessment

Assessment is competency based and includes practical demonstrations, problem solving, documents/folio, journals, oral presentations, interviews, case studies, projects, examinations and collection of specimens.
