Course Overview

English as a second language (ESL) classes will help student develop English language skills to improve their ability to communicate in the community and at work, use local services and understand the Australian way of life. Students study at their own level. The courses cover spoken and written English and include some computer use.

Some ESL Programs are taught with a particular vocation focus eg: Children's Services and Hospitality.

Higher level English classes can assist with preparation for entrance to other TAFE programs and to prepare for the IELTS exam.

Qualifications And Recognition

Upon successful completion of this course students will be eligible to receive the Certificates in English as a Second Language.

Assessment

Assessment is at the students level and is usually informal. It can include group discussions, interviews, completion of writing tasks

Opportunities For Further Study

Students can be given credit for some units in other Adult Education Courses such as the Certificates in General Education for Adults. Improving English will also improve students' performance in other courses

Can prospective students enrol in individual units?

Yes.

Each level has compulsory language units to develop reading, writing and oral skills and electives about aspects of Australian life.
