Apprenticeships and traineeships form the backbone of new employment in many Australian industries. They enable people to kick start a new career and work while they are learning, while also offering employers great financial incentives for taking on staff that are trained for their business.

How do I start an apprenticeship/traineeship?

Firstly you will need to secure yourself employment as a trainee or apprentice. Your employer will have contacted their local Australian Apprenticeships Centre to register your traineeship or apprenticeship. Part of this process will be the selection of an appropriate Registered Training Organisation, such as GippsTAFE, which will negotiate to provide your formal training which may be off-the-job, on-the-job, or a combination of both.

What can I do to improve my chances of securing an apprenticeship?

GippsTAFE offers a number of pre-apprenticeship courses that will provide you with skills and knowledge to increase your chances of securing an apprenticeship. In some instances these courses provide you with the same off-the-job training as a first year apprentice.
